This coming week, I’ll be joining Taleen Kali’s residency at Harvard & Stone for a special DJ set before, after and in between the bands. More info on that below the jump. Plus, I’ve included a handful of other L.A. music events, including clubs, concerts and record fairs that are on my radar for the week. Keep reading and mark your calendars.
Friday, September 15
Bastidas!, Banana Leaf Boy @ La Cita
If you work downtown and need a music fix, this week’s Angry Hour at La Cita is ideal. Bastidas! and Banana Leaf Boy are playing live, with the performance set to begin at 7 p.m. Angry Hour itself goes from 4-9 p.m., so head there early enough to catch the Happy Hour specials and stick around for the show. It beats spending your Friday evening stuck in traffic.
336 S. Hill St., DTLA, 90013; 4-9 p.m.; 21+; no cover
Nervous Gender Reloaded, Chaki, Suburban John, Care @ Corbin Bowl
Corbin Bowl is a great spot to check out live music. It’s small. It’s literally in a bowling alley. Even better, it’s in a bowling alley right next to a Zankou Chicken *and* there’s free parking. If you haven’t previously been to Corbin Bowl, Friday should be a good night to check it out. The lineup is fantastic, headlined by Nervous Gender Reloaded and including Chaki, Suburban John (featuring members of Suburban Lawns) and Care. Arrive early because Care, who I got to see at Oracle Tavern back in July, is fantastic and goes on at 8:15 p.m.
Corbin Bowl, 19616 Ventura Blvd., Tarzana 91356; 8 p.m.; all ages; $10
The Good Foot 25th Anniversary @ Alex’s Bar

There’s no cover, but you can reserve tickets on Dice.

6th Annual DJ Shadow Storage Sale @ Rappcats
I’ve never been to one of DJ Shadow’s storage sales and have no idea what to expect, but I am down to find out this weekend. The sale is happening on Saturday and Sunday at Rappcats in Highland Park and is said to include a new, exclusive 45 from the famed DJ as well as vinyl from his personal collection. There will also be CDs and cassettes available. On Sunday, a half-price blowout on items $10 under will happen between 4 and 6 p.m. See Rappcats website for more information.

Shibuya Starlight @ Grand Star Jazz Club
Since earlier this year, my pals from Tune in Tokyo have been throwing monthly party Shibuya Starlight at Grand Star Jazz Club and it’s so much fun. For this Saturday night bash, the crew brings together a unique mix of future funk, city pop, J-pop and deep house. This month will include sets from Dave Tada (deep house), DJ Curry (future funk) and guest DJ Daniel Omectin (city pop and kayokyoku on vinyl). Beat Swap Meet presents Los Angeles Record Fair @ HiDef Brewing Company
It’s been a long time since I’ve hit up a Beat Swap Meet event, but I’ve found a lot of heat in the bins at their record fairs over the years. That said, if you’re downtown on Sunday and you’re looking for vinyl, carve out a couple hours in your schedule to do some digging here.
HiDef Brewing Company, 1203 S. Olive Street, DTLA, 90013; 1-6 p.m.; all ages; no cover
Smorgasburg Record Fair @ The Row
Can’t get enough vinyl. Smorgasburg’s Record Fair is back on September 17 at The Row from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. I saw that Rubycon, who had the Paul Parker I picked up last weekend at Alamo Drafthouse, will be there, so stop by their booth if you’re in the market for synth-heavy pop, disco, etc.
The Row, 777 S. Alameda St., DTLA 90021; 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; all ages; no cover
Riddim ’n’ Brews @ Benny Boy Brewing
I don’t always get to go to monthly bash Riddim ’n’ Brews, but, anytime I do is a great Sunday. Resident selector Ted Morris and guests serve up an afternoon of classic Jamaican tunes on 45s at Benny Boy Brewing, a spacious venue with a large, outdoor area. This month’s guests are Jon Offbeat and Killa Jo.
