It’s a good week or two to be a Depeche Mode fan in L.A. Kick off the weekend this Friday, December 8, with Depeche Mode Night at Club Underground, which is also my birthday party. Both floors of Grand Star Jazz Club will be open with Larry G., Malvada and me, Liz O., on the decks. Tickets are available now via Eventbrite or Dice.
Here’s what else is happening in L.A. over the next week. I did not list Depeche Mode’s upcoming shows at Kia Forum because I figure that anybody who wants to go already knows about it and already has tickets for it.

December 10
Brujeria @ The Glass House
A few months ago, I was stunned to see a Brujeria t-shirt on a wall inside a vintage shop in Echo Park. I don’t know what the shirt cost, but I did see the tags on the surrounding tees, so it’s a reasonable assumption to say it was likely much more expensive than a 199-whatever metalhead would have paid for it. It’s also reasonable to assume that tickets to see Brujeria at The Glass House, which range from $27.50 to $30 on Eventbrite, are probably cheaper than the t-shirt. Also, this is an all ages show and doors are at 5 p.m.
The Glass House, 200 W. 2nd Street, Pomona, 91766
Danny Tenaglia @ Station 1640
There are relatively few DJs that I would refer to as icons, but Danny Tenaglia is one. Even back in the ‘90s, when DJs were still relatively anonymous, he had star status thanks to his gigs at famed New York clubs and remix credits for artists like Jamiroquai and Madonna. If you haven’t seen Tenaglia before, catch him at Station 1640 on Sunday night. Tickets start at $20 on Eventbrite.
Station 1640, 1640 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Hollywood 90028
Los Yesterdays @ Garden Amphitheatre
For fans of the new oldies, Los Yesterdays, whose clip for “Nobody’s Clown” is still one of my recent favorite music videos, hits Orange County on Sunday evening with a show at Garden Amphitheatre. If you haven’t heard their version of “Louis Louis,” which came out earlier this year, you should. Tickets for Sunday’s show are $30 and it’s all ages. Doors are 5:30 p.m.
Garden Amphitheatre, 12762 Main Street, Garden Grove 92840
December 12
Martin Rev @ Zebulon
In 1970, Martin Rev co-founded Suicide and with the release of the debut studio album of the same name some seven years later, he became one of the godfathers of what is now known as synthpunk. Rev has been making eclectic and challenging albums as a solo artist ever since. Catch him Tuesday night, with opening performances from DPSD and Taylor E. Burch as well as DJ sets from Adam Miller, at Zebulon.
Zebulon, 2478 Fletcher Drive, Atwater Village 90039
December 13
Depeche Mode Day @ L.A. City Hall
Depeche Mode Day is December 13! Yes, it’s a real thing in L.A. and Councilperson Monica Rodriguez will make the declaration on December 13 on the steps of City Hall at 1 p.m. And, yes, Martin Gore and Dave Gahan will be there. Richard Blade will be the DJ and MC for the event.
200 N. Spring Street, DTLA 90012
Liz O. is an L.A.-based writer and DJ. Read her recently published work and check out her upcoming gigs.
