For as long as I’ve been DJing, I’ve been keeping track of my set lists. Somewhere in my, er, archives (really, boxes of folders that I haven’t gone through since college), there are probably old playlists of my KXLU shows and crumpled bits of paper from my early club sets. I started sharing the set lists online before social media mostly so that people who went to the clubs could familiarize themselves with the new music and people who weren’t in L.A. knew where they could dance to Ladytron or Miss Kittin or whoever when they visited our fine city. (And, that actually worked, I did meet people from as far as London and Berlin who saw my set list in some electro-indie-whatever forum.)
For a while, I didn’t post set lists because it didn’t seem like many people cared and the ones who did were probably Shazaming the set. In the last year or so, though, after it became apparent that today’s tech is barely functional, I went back to posting these set lists. Shazam doesn’t always work and that’s not necessarily because the song is so obscure. Last night, someone asked me about a track for that reason, so I’ll keep posting the set lists.
Thanks to everyone who came out to Dolce Vita at The Mermaid last night. It was, as always a blast, and I’ll be back there on February 6. My next gig, though, is in the New Wave v. Dark Wave room at Klub Nocturno this Saturday, January 20. If you RSVP’d, I hope to see you there.
